Superdávka and Housing Benefit in the Czech Republic in 2026: Eligibility and Application
Superdávka is the Czech Republic’s unified State Social Assistance Allowance. It replaced four separate benefits, including the former housing allowance, and is designed to support households that cannot fully cover housing and essential living costs.
Since 1 October 2025, new applicants can no longer apply separately for příspěvek na bydlení. Housing support is now provided through the housing component of Superdávka.
Eligibility depends not only on rent and household income. The Labour Office also assesses savings, residential property, cars, household composition and, where applicable, the work activity of adult household members.
What happened to the Czech housing benefit?
Superdávka replaced the housing allowance, housing supplement, child allowance and subsistence allowance with one application for the whole household. The reform was introduced under Act No. 151/2025 Coll. and took effect on 1 October 2025.
Existing recipients who wanted their previous benefits to continue had to apply for Superdávka by 31 December 2025. Their old benefits remained payable through July 2026, with the first Superdávka payment scheduled for August 2026 for July.
New applicants in 2026 apply directly for the unified allowance. Current transition details are published by the Labour Office of the Czech Republic.
How the Superdávka housing component works
The housing component helps cover part of the household’s rent, services and energy costs. At least one household member must have a legal right to use the accommodation, such as ownership, a tenancy agreement, a sublease or an accommodation contract.
Housing costs must exceed 30% of the household’s assessed income, while the recognised costs must remain within the limits defined by law. The calculation uses normative rent and an energy allowance, so the full amount actually paid is not always accepted.
For households with income above 1.43 times the subsistence minimum, energy costs are generally calculated as a fixed allowance. Lower-income households may be required to document their actual payments.
Income, savings and property assessment
Superdávka includes an asset test. The household’s combined cash and money held in ordinary or savings accounts must not normally exceed:
- 200,000 CZK for one person;
- 250,000 CZK for two people;
- 300,000 CZK for three people;
- 350,000 CZK for four people;
- 400,000 CZK for five or more people.
State-supported pension and building savings products are excluded from this limit. According to the official MPSV guidance in English, a household may generally own one passenger car per adult.
A household may own the home in which it lives and, under limited conditions, one additional residential property for up to three years. The Labour Office examines the number of properties and vehicles rather than their market value.
Work activity and protected applicants
Adults who are able to work are generally expected to be employed, self-employed, registered as jobseekers or otherwise economically active. Work activity can also affect eligibility for the child and work bonus components.
This requirement does not apply in the same way to vulnerable people, including certain pensioners, people with disabilities, parents caring for young children and people providing qualifying care. The exact assessment depends on the circumstances of every household.
Documents needed for the application
- identity document and personal details of household members;
- consent from every adult member of the household;
- tenancy, sublease or accommodation agreement;
- proof of rent, services and energy payments;
- income information for all household members;
- a declaration covering savings, cars and residential property;
- where relevant, documents concerning maintenance payments, studies or childcare.
The Labour Office can obtain some information automatically. Applicants may provide their employer’s company identification number and the EAN or EIC number for electricity or gas supply points.
How to apply for Superdávka
One fully competent adult submits the application for the entire household. The application can be completed online through the Jenda Client Zone using Czech electronic identification, such as Bankovní identita.
Applicants who cannot use the online service may complete an assisted application at any Labour Office branch. Applications submitted from 1 January 2026 normally have a 30-day processing period, which may be extended by another 30 days when additional investigation is required.
Common mistakes and important deadlines
Applications are often delayed by missing adult household consent, incomplete proof of rent, incorrectly declared household members or missing information about income and assets.
Existing recipients in the transition period must report relevant changes in household composition within eight calendar days. An appeal against a Superdávka decision may be filed within 30 days of delivery.
Superdávka and housing benefit are no longer separate benefits in the Czech Republic. Housing assistance is now one component of a unified allowance assessed according to the income, housing costs, assets and circumstances of the whole household.
