Czech Republic Public Holidays 2027: Dates, Easter and Long Weekends

Czech Republic public holidays in 2027 are useful to know before booking travel, taking annual leave or planning a working schedule. The country has a fixed list of statutory holidays as well as two movable Easter holidays.

In 2027, Easter falls in March, while Christmas Eve falls on a Friday. Several other holidays create opportunities for longer breaks by adding only one or two days of leave.

Below are the official dates and the practical differences between a public holiday and a regular weekend.

Czech Republic public holidays 2027: full list

The statutory list comes from Czech Act No. 245/2000 Coll. The weekdays shown below are for the 2027 calendar year.

  • 1 January, Friday — New Year's Day and Restoration of the Independent Czech State.
  • 26 March, Friday — Good Friday.
  • 29 March, Monday — Easter Monday.
  • 1 May, Saturday — Labour Day.
  • 8 May, Saturday — Victory Day.
  • 5 July, Monday — Saints Cyril and Methodius Day.
  • 6 July, Tuesday — Jan Hus Day.
  • 28 September, Tuesday — Czech Statehood Day.
  • 28 October, Thursday — Independent Czechoslovak State Day.
  • 17 November, Wednesday — Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day.
  • 24 December, Friday — Christmas Eve.
  • 25 December, Saturday — Christmas Day.
  • 26 December, Sunday — St Stephen's Day.

When are the long weekends in 2027?

The Easter break runs from Friday 26 March through Monday 29 March for a conventional Monday-to-Friday schedule. The holidays on 5 and 6 July fall on Monday and Tuesday, creating four consecutive days off when combined with the previous weekend.

Taking Friday 29 October as annual leave after the Thursday holiday on 28 October may also create a four-day break.

Are shops and offices open on public holidays?

Opening hours are not identical across all holidays or businesses. Some larger shops face statutory restrictions on certain days, while public transport generally follows holiday schedules. Check the exact venue or operator before travelling.

Do employees always get the day off?

Public holidays are generally days of rest, but some jobs involve permitted holiday work, such as essential services and continuous operations. Pay and compensatory leave are regulated by the Czech Labour Code.

How to plan annual leave

Check both the calendar and your employment contract or rota. Booking transport early can be worthwhile around Easter, summer holidays and Christmas because travel demand may rise.
